After the greige fabric is formed, most fabrics undergo further processing that consists of dyes and pigments (colorants) and chemicals. Chemicals of various types are used to modify the fibers, yarns, and fabrics during or after their formation. Sample chemical finishes include flame-retardants, sizings, softeners, stain repellents, and water repellents.
